The Joint Meeting focused on the topic “Technology Transfer and Commercialization” with more than 140 attendees including academics, legal practitioners, government officials as well as industry people from Taiwan, Hong Kong and different parts of China. We were honoured to have Mr Zhu Yu, Director General of Intellectual Property Office of Jiangsu Province, PRC as guest of honour as well as Mr Patrick O’Reilley and Mr Heinz Goddar (respectively current and past President of LES International) as our keynote speakers and other distinguished speakers from Taiwan, Hong Kong and different parts of China.
Our keynote speakers considered some of the complex practical and legal issues involved in formulating a global IPR strategy and the importance of such strategy in developing and exploiting IP. Other speakers and commentators shared their knowledge on best practice in commercialization of R&D results and IP protection both in the academic and commercial environment.

SPARC FORUM 2008- Chinese Medicine & Herbal Products – Hong Kong
We are pleased to announce that Licensing Executives Society China, Hong Kong Sub-Chapter is a supporting organization of the Science Park Applied Research Commercialization (SPARC) Forum 2008 which will be held on 11 November 2008 at “Golden Egg” Auditorium, Phase 2, Hong Kong Science Park, Hong Kong.
Hosted by Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation, SPARC Forum is an annual event aiming to raise business awareness and facilitate business matching, networking and experience sharing. This year the Forum focuses on Chinese medicine and herbal products and is co-organized by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine. than 30 years experience in patent prosecution, litigation,

University Law Center where he taught the Advanced Patent Law

Mr Melvin Jager, President of LESI gave an overview of the structure and work of LESI.
Dr Lui then gave an overview of the patent protection and the general requirements of obtaining a patent. In particular, she guided listeners through the unique requirements and pitfalls of patenting inventions that have roots in "traditional knowledge" with the apparent contradictions inherent therein. She concluded by stressing that those companies that are active in the traditional medicine field should have a clear strategy on how to extract value from all forms of intellectual property, including branding and trade secret protection.
